Kief: The Natural Hemp Concentrate
One thing we love about growing, harvesting, and preparing our variety of hemp flower strains is that we can (and do!) take full advantage of all of the flower material.
We have observed that one type of finished plant material that is too often overlooked and underappreciated is kief. For those of you interested in getting the most cannabinoid bang for your buck, our kief collection represents an excellent bargain!
One of the most admired features of any premium hemp bud is the trichomes coating the flower, often silvery and/or sparkly. Those trichomes are rich in both cannabinoids and terpenes, meaning they represent the essence of the hemp flower strain and contribute mightily to the overall effects you experience when smoking or vaping those buds.
Kief refers to the accumulated trichomes that populate the plant and have been sifted through a screen, resulting in a fluffy powdery substance. Because this natural sifting process eliminates excess plant material, it captures and contains higher percentages of the cannabinoids found in the different hemp flower strains you consume. You can also call kief “concentrated resin glands” because of the higher concentration of cannabinoids found in it, which is why we think of it as the original natural hemp concentrate!
Naturally High in CBDA!
Another attractive feature of our Super Sour Space Candy CBD kief is that by nature it is very high in CBDA content. As our blog article “Decarboxylation Demystified” explains in detail, the application of heat will convert CBDA into CBD. During that process, about ⅛ of the total CBDA is dissipated during the heat conversion. For example, if you have 100mg of CBDA, after decarboxylation you would have 87.7mg of CBD.
However, you do not have to convert this CBDA if you don’t want to! I’ve held back my reviews until trying out all of the options, and so far the Lemon Octane shake and kief seemed to be the most flavorful. Granted, I haven’t tried any nugs yet, just been ordering CBD shake/trim. I’m not sure if these are just old and have been sitting for a while but It would be nice to see an exact date of harvest for each product rather than just an obscure lab analysis from years prior. The terpenes have decent smell, but a serious lack of flavor when smoking. I’ve been a consumer of cannabis for around 20 years and I’ve had it all. Gives a Slight buzz and hunger effect but nowhere even close to actual THC cannabis. The prices on fern valley are the best for the quality, compared to other CBD companies and I’m appreciative of that for sure. The priority shipping for an extra 10$ Takes exactly the same time as the 5$ option but not sure if that’s just because of my area. I hope to see more strain options in the future as well as more info on harvest dates for each batch. They could truly set themselves apart from other places if they gave us a bit more updated and specified information on their products. All in all i would recommend trying the lemon octane over this sour lifter. At the moment the nugs are still too over priced compared to actual cannabis so I’m holding off but the shake is worth the price just wish it wasn’t so old.

I had some reggie laying around the house that was pretty harsh to smoke. I mixed it with some of FVF super sour space candy and it’s night and day. It has that super skunk kush smell that I love, you can mix this stuff with bottom or top shelf bud or add to your blunts or prerolls to get a more smoother more relaxing and longer lasting smoke sessions since this stuff burns slow I mean super slow it’s perfect ????
