How to Use Terpenes: A Guide to Cannabis-Derived Aromas

Derived directly from some of our favorite hemp flower cultivars, our cannabis derived terpenes are the result of a meticulous extraction process that preserves the essence of hemp in its most natural form. What makes cannabis-derived terpenes special, especially when compared to botanical terpenes, is the pure and unaltered profile they offer. This means a richer aroma, a deeper flavor, and potentially a more pronounced entourage effect.

Understanding Terpene Dilution:

Before we delve into the specifics, it’s important to understand dilution. When we talk about diluting terpenes in distillate, we mean how much of the terpene should be added per gram of distillate to get the desired concentration and effect.

Safety Information

This product is concentrated and should not be used undiluted. Avoid contact between this undiluted product and skin, eyes, wood surfaces and fabrics. Keep this product away from children and pets. Discontinue use if any adverse reaction occurs. Flammable liquid and vapor. Store in original container with lid securely tightened. Store in a cool dry place away from heat, open flame and sunlight. Undiluted Terpenes are POTENT and should never be consumed or inhaled – May be fatal if swallowed and enters airways. IF SWALLOWED: Immediately call a POISON CENTER or physician. Do NOT induce vomiting. Store locked up.

How many drops are in 2ml?

The number of drops in our 2ml bottle is determined by the specific dropper included, which measures 30mm in length and 5mm in diameter. With this dropper, you can expect to extract roughly 12 drops per full dropper squeeze. Overall, our 2ml bottle provides an estimated 40 drops.

Recommended Dilution Levels:

  1. Low Dilution: This offers a mild terpene profile and is ideal for those who want a subtle aroma and flavor.
  2. Medium Dilution: This is a balanced profile suitable for most users. It offers a noticeable but not overpowering terpene presence.
  3. High Dilution: This provides a strong terpene profile for those who love a robust flavor and aroma.

Elevating Your Concentrates

When adding cannabis-derived terpenes to hemp-derived distillates, it’s crucial to get the dilution right. Not only will this impact the efficacy and safety of the final product, but it will also influence the flavor, aroma, and overall user experience. This guide will walk you through the dilution process step-by-step.

How to Dilute:

  1. Prepare Your Workspace: Ensure you have a clean and sterile workspace. Lay out your distillate syringe, terpene bottle, and any other necessary tools.
  2. Decide on the Dilution: Choose between low, medium, or high dilution based on your preference or your customer’s requirement.
  3. Add Terpenes: Use the dropper to count out the desired number of drops of terpenes and add them to the distillate. Make sure to do this slowly and carefully to ensure accuracy.
  4. Mix Thoroughly: Once the terpenes have been added, mix the distillate and terpenes together thoroughly. This ensures an even distribution of the terpenes throughout the distillate.
  5. Store Properly: Once mixed, store your diluted product in a cool, dark place. This helps preserve the terpenes and distillate’s integrity and longevity.

Important Notes:

  • Always perform a small batch test before diluting a large quantity of distillate. This allows you to adjust as necessary.
  • Always start with a low dilution and adjust according to preference.
  • Over-dilution can lead to a very strong taste and aroma that might not be palatable to everyone. Always stick to the recommended dilution levels unless you have a specific reason to deviate.
  • Ensure all tools and containers used are clean and free from contaminants.

By following this guide, you can enjoy a well-diluted, flavorful, and aromatic hemp-derived product. Always remember to use responsibly and enjoy the enhanced experience that terpenes provide.

How to Use Cannabis-Derived Terpenes in Food and Drinks

Using cannabis derived terpenes in culinary applications can elevate the flavor profile of your dishes and drinks, imparting a unique aroma and taste. Given the concentrated nature of these terpenes, a little goes a long way.

Terpenes in Food:

1. Start Small: Due to the high concentration (750mg/g) of these terpenes, it’s essential to start with a minimal amount and adjust according to taste.

2. Understand the Flavor Profile: Different terpenes have distinct flavors and aromas. Before adding them to a dish, familiarize yourself with their individual profiles to make an informed decision about which dishes they’d best complement.

3. Pairing: Think of terpenes as essential oils for food. They can be paired with ingredients that either complement or contrast their flavor.

  • Citrusy Terpenes: Great with fish, chicken, or salads.
  • Piney Terpenes: Pair well with red meats or hearty vegetables.
  • Earthy Terpenes: Complement root vegetables, grains, and mushrooms.

4. Cooking Techniques: When cooking with terpenes, it’s better to use them in recipes that don’t require prolonged heat to retain their aromatic properties.

  • Cold Dishes: Add a few drops directly and mix well.
  • Hot Dishes: Add terpenes at the end of the cooking process, similar to how you’d use a finishing oil.

5. Dosage:

  • Low Intensity: 1 drop for every 2 servings
  • Medium Intensity: 1 drop per serving
  • High Intensity: 2 drops per serving

Remember, you can always add more, but you can’t take away, so err on the side of caution.

Terpenes in Drinks:

Terpenes are oil-soluble, which means they don’t mix directly with water-based drinks. However, there are ways to incorporate them successfully.

1. Emulsion: This method involves using an emulsifying agent to mix oil and water-based components.

  • Ingredients: Terpenes, a drink of your choice, and an emulsifying agent (like lecithin).
  • Procedure: Mix terpenes with the emulsifying agent first, then slowly add your drink while stirring or blending.

2. Direct Addition: For alcoholic beverages, you can add terpenes directly since alcohol acts as a solvent.

  • Cocktails: Start with 1 drop for a cocktail and adjust based on preference.
  • Wine/Beer: Begin with 1 drop for every 2 glasses.

3. Using Carriers: Another method is to use a carrier, like honey or syrup, which can dissolve the terpenes and then be mixed into a drink.

  • Procedure: Dissolve a few drops of terpenes in a small amount of honey or syrup and then add it to your drink. This works exceptionally well in teas, coffees, and other warm beverages.

4. Dosage:

  • Low Intensity: 1 drop for every 2 glasses or cocktails
  • Medium Intensity: 1 drop per glass or cocktail
  • High Intensity: 2 drops per glass or cocktail

Important Notes:

  • Always perform a small batch test before scaling up to ensure the flavor and aroma are to your liking.
  • Store terpenes in a cool, dark place to maintain their integrity.
  • In culinary applications, terpenes are for flavor and aroma enhancement and should be used responsibly.

With these guidelines, you can explore the world of culinary possibilities that hemp-derived top terpenes offer, elevating your dishes and drinks to gourmet levels.

Using Terpenes with Aromatherapy, Skincare, & Beyond

When it comes to skincare, always remember that terpenes should be diluted and never applied directly. However, when mixed in the right proportions, they can be an asset to your skincare routine, lending their aromatic benefits. The possibilities are vast: rejuvenating face masks, soothing lotions, or aromatic bath bombs.

Beyond skincare, the aromatic power of terpenes can be harnessed for household products, natural pesticides, and more. Their strong natural scents can deter pests or refresh a room.
